Indica, Sativa, Hybrid... or Experience? A Better Way to Shop

Sep 29, 2026

Indica, sativa and hybrid are familiar cannabis labels, but they are not a complete description of what is inside a modern product or how every person will experience it.

Why keep the labels at all?

They remain part of the language many shoppers use, and cultivar classification can still provide context. PCC keeps those classifications visible where they are useful.

Why add “experience” categories?

Experience categories give shoppers another way into the catalog. Instead of starting with a strain name you have never heard of, you can begin with a direction such as Uplifting, Creative, Balanced, Relaxed or Wind Down.

Experience is not a guarantee

These categories are merchandising tools based on the product profile and intended shopping context. They are not medical claims and cannot predict exactly how a product will feel for a particular person.

A better comparison uses several signals

  • Format: concentrate, edible, flower or hand-rolled.
  • Cultivar and lineage.
  • Flavor and aroma.
  • Primary and secondary terpenes.
  • Product-specific potency and serving information.
  • Your own experience and tolerance.

That is the logic behind PCC's Find Your Strain tool: combine the signals instead of pretending one label has every answer.
